Contact with HMRC
I would suggest at all costs the last people you contact are the Revenue as they are currently being used by the Government predominately as an intelligence gathering system. Over the last two years I have been having an ongoing battle with them in respect of information on client's tax returns, as I'm afraid I do not consider that an individual's personal email address nor their home telephone or mobile telephone numbers are anything to do with calculating the tax liability.
I did actually have a client tell me some months ago that apparently his secretary had forgotten to post the monthly cheque for the PAYE deducted from the employees, which should have been sent to the Revenue by the 19th of the month. It was something like the 22nd of the month and a Saturday afternoon, about 3 O'clock and his mobile rang. He was at the checkout in Tescos and he found he was being harangued by a very unpleasant Scottish female person who had managed to get his telephone number by cross referencing from the company payroll to the company file to the directors to his tax file to his mobile number.
